Every product begins before the first sketch.
It begins with a feeling that something in the way we move, work, or think could be better.
AROUND Backpack started there.
Not just a bag for carrying things
A backpack can be measured in liters, pockets, fabrics, and dimensions. Those details matter. But they are not the reason a bag becomes part of someone’s life.
We are interested in what happens after you put it on.
You leave the house. You change location. You meet someone. You see something you had not noticed before. You make a note. You open your laptop. A thought becomes an idea, and an idea becomes an action.
The bag is not the destination. It is one of the tools that lets you move toward it.
Designed for movement between modes
AROUND is being developed for people who move between different parts of their day: home and office, meetings and cafés, work and travel, planning and making.
That means the design has to do more than hold objects. It has to make changing modes feel natural.
A laptop needs to be easy to reach. Small tools should not disappear into the bottom of the bag. The main compartment should work for both everyday use and short travel. Access should feel intuitive whether you are standing beside a desk, on a train, or checking into a hotel.
Every detail is being considered from the perspective of what the user is trying to do next.
Clarity before complexity
More features are not always better.
We want each feature to earn its place. A pocket should exist because it makes an action easier. A zipper should be where your hand expects it to be. A structure should support the way people actually move, not just look impressive in a specification list.
This is where Think Clear. matters.
Before adding something, we ask what problem it solves, what behavior it supports, and whether it makes the whole product clearer or more complicated.
Built to go outside
AROUND is not being created for a life that stays in one place.
It is for taking your work somewhere else. For an unplanned stop after a meeting. For spending a Saturday at a library, exhibition, cinema, or café and turning what you find there into something of your own.
Movement creates encounters. Encounters create stimulation. Stimulation can change the way we think—and sometimes the direction we take.
That is the space actpacker wants to support.
This is only the beginning
AROUND is our first major step toward building tools for people who choose to move.
The product will continue to change as we test it, use it, and learn from the people who carry it.
We will share that process here in the Journal—not only what we make, but why we make it.
Next act: Take one idea you have been carrying around and give it a different place to grow. Leave your usual environment, bring only what you need, and see what changes.
